In brief
Looking for a translation agency Luxembourg can rely on? In one of Europe's most multilingual markets we deliver certified and specialist translations in over 70 languages – for banks and funds, the EU institutions, insurance and industry, and for private clients living and working across the border. Cost-effective express translations can be booked at short notice.
For documents intended for German authorities, court-authorised translators produce certified translations, accepted throughout Germany on the basis of the certification note. Where a Luxembourg authority requires a translation sworn before the Luxembourg courts (traducteur assermenté), that depends on the receiving body – we clarify the correct path and assign the right specialist to every job.
Luxembourg as a business location
A leading financial centre, an EU institutional seat and a multilingual crossroads – Luxembourg and the Greater Region generate demanding translation needs. We assign the right specialist to every job.
For the financial centre: annual reports, prospectuses, contracts and regulatory documents – French ⇄ English, German and beyond, confidential and on schedule.
For one of the world's largest fund domiciles: KIIDs/PRIIPs, fund documentation and marketing material in many languages.
Around the Court of Justice, the EIB and the institutions on Kirchberg: legal, procedural and policy texts – precise and terminologically consistent.
For insurers and data-centre/ICT providers: policies, terms and conditions, technical and product documentation.
Around ArcelorMittal and cross-border logistics: technical documentation, customs and export papers, contracts.
For authorities on both sides of the border: sworn and certified certificates, records and register extracts.
Among the companies and institutions that have trusted us with translations and proofreading are Luxembourg-based names from the digital economy – Amazon, eBay, iTunes, PayPal and Rakuten – the satellite operator SES (SES Global), industrial groups such as Goodyear and ArcelorMittal, and EU institutions including the European Court of Justice, the European Court of Auditors, the European Investment Bank and the Secretariat of the European Parliament.
Languages
We translate in both directions; every job goes to a native-speaker specialist who gets the right regional variant. The strongest demand in Luxembourg is for French, German, English, Luxembourgish, Portuguese and Italian.
Certification, sworn translation & apostille
The right certification depends on where your document will be used. For submission to Luxembourg authorities, a translation sworn before the Luxembourg courts (traducteur assermenté) is usually required – translators listed by the Luxembourg Ministry of Justice; whether it is required in a given case is decided by the receiving body. For submission to German authorities, court-authorised translators produce certified translations, accepted throughout Germany on the basis of the certification note. A German certified translation is therefore not automatically accepted in Luxembourg, and vice versa – we tell you the right path in advance. Where an apostille is required, it belongs before the translation.
| Matter | Competent authority | What FÜD handles / what to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Certified translation for German authorities | Fachübersetzungsdienst Luxembourg Court-authorised (sworn) translator – accepted nationwide in Germany | We produce the certified translation with a certification note – accepted throughout Germany on the basis of the certification note. |
| Sworn translation for Luxembourg authorities | Traducteur assermenté, sworn before the Luxembourg courts; list held by the Ministry of Justice | Whether a Luxembourg-sworn version is required depends on the receiving body – we clarify the path and assign the right specialist. |
| Apostille / legalisation (Luxembourg documents) | Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (Ministère des Affaires étrangères et européennes) | We tell you whether an apostille is needed and translate the apostille note. FÜD does not issue apostilles. |
| Civil-status documents (birth, marriage, death) | Registry office of the relevant Luxembourg commune (e.g. Ville de Luxembourg) | We translate the certificate; multilingual (international) certificates are available directly from the commune. |
| Recognition of foreign qualifications | Luxembourg Ministry of Education (MENJE) / competent recognition body | Certified or sworn translation for the procedure; equivalence is decided by the competent authority. |
We tell you in advance which body is responsible for your document and which certification your destination requires – the apostille itself is issued by the competent authority, not by FÜD. Sources: guichet.lu, Luxembourg Ministry of Justice (sworn-translator list) and Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs (apostille), as at 08/2026.
We handle urgent jobs on an express basis – after a brief feasibility check we confirm a binding deadline and fixed price. For the most requested combinations we agree the delivery date with you beforehand so the right specialist is free:
Cross-border
Luxembourg is one of Europe's most multilingual places: French, German and Luxembourgish are the official languages, and English is the working language of much of the financial centre, the EU institutions on Kirchberg and international business. A defining feature is the cross-border workforce: around half of all employees commute in every day from Germany, France and Belgium. That mix creates constant demand for certified, sworn and specialist translations across many language pairs.
We serve the whole Greater Region across the border: clients in Trier and Saarbrücken in Germany, in Lorraine (France) and in Wallonia (Belgium) use the same digital route. For our German locations, see Locations.
How we work for Luxembourg
We work for Luxembourg and the Greater Region entirely online and by post: upload or send your document, and we deliver the finished version – sealed, in the case of certified translations – digitally and by post across the border. There is no walk-in office in Luxembourg, and an on-site appointment is only by arrangement. Our customer service answers questions centrally on 0800 3333-3433.
For German authorities our certified translations are accepted nationwide on the basis of the certification note; where a Luxembourg body requires a sworn translation (traducteur assermenté), we clarify the path in advance. For use abroad we also translate the apostille note.
Quote & price

Careers & training
The path into the profession is rarely a straight line: what counts is native-level language skill, sound subject expertise in a field such as law, finance or technology – and, for sworn translation in Luxembourg, admission as a traducteur assermenté before the Luxembourg courts. In a market built on French, German, Luxembourgish and English, multilingual profiles are in demand.
