Certification, apostille & responsible authorities
Hamm lies in North Rhine-Westphalia, in the Arnsberg administrative region (Regierungsbezirk Arnsberg). Who is responsible for certification and apostille depends on the type of document. FÜD provides the recognition-ready translation – the apostille is always issued by the competent authority, not by FÜD.
| Matter | Responsible authority for Hamm | What FÜD handles / what to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Certified translation | Fachübersetzungsdienst Hamm Court-authorised translator (accepted nationwide) | We produce the certified translation with a certification note – accepted throughout Germany. |
| Apostille for civil-status & administrative documents | Arnsberg Regional Government (Bezirksregierung Arnsberg) – Department 21 (for documents issued by towns/municipalities in the Arnsberg region) Seibertzstraße 1, 59821 Arnsberg | We tell you whether an apostille is required and translate the apostille note along with it. FÜD does not issue apostilles. |

If the receiving body requires an apostille, it belongs before the translation: it is affixed to the original document first, and we then translate the document including the apostille note.
Not sure whether and where you need an apostille? We review your case and tell you the responsible authority – issuing it stays with the authority. Source: bra.nrw.de, as at 08/2026.
We handle urgent jobs on an express basis – after a brief feasibility check we confirm a binding deadline and fixed price. For the most requested combinations we agree the delivery date with you beforehand so the right specialist is available:
Hamm & the eastern Ruhr
The city of our Hamm translators lies on the eastern edge of the Ruhr region and, geographically, already belongs in part to the Westphalian Münsterland. The city is divided into 7 districts with numerous localities, of which the Hamm-Mitte district is the most populous. Some of the localities have a rural, village-like character. The city has just under 182,000 inhabitants and is one of Germany's smaller major cities. The nearest major cities are Dortmund and Münster. Hamm did not grow organically but was founded in the High Middle Ages as a planned town by the Counts of the Mark, who ruled the region. The town's founding in 1226 served as a counterweight to the Archbishops of Cologne, who were competing for power in the region.
Beyond Hamm we work for the eastern Ruhr region and the surrounding Westphalia: clients from Dortmund, the district of Unna, Ahlen and Hagen use the same digital route.
