Leipzig as a business location
An automotive and logistics hub, an IT location and a trading centre – Leipzig's industries generate very different translation needs. We assign the right specialist to every job.
For Porsche, BMW and the DHL hub: technical documentation, operating manuals and customs and freight papers – German ⇄ English and beyond.
Around IT houses such as Comparex, Softline AG and Momox: software, product and contract documentation, localisation.
For the European Energy Exchange (EEX): reporting, contract and regulatory documents – confidential and on schedule.
For Leipzig University and research institutes: studies, journal articles and publications – scientifically precise.
Around the Book Fair and the media sector: editorial copy, marketing and transcreation.
For authorities, courts and law firms: certified certificates, contracts and records by sworn translators.
Languages
We translate in both directions; every job goes to a native-speaker specialist who gets the right regional variant – for public authorities, a sworn (court-authorised) translator produces the certified version. Certification & apostille
If the receiving body requires an apostille, it belongs before the translation: it is affixed to the original document first, and we then translate the document including the apostille note – so the certified translation remains fully usable in the destination country.
The apostille is issued by the competent authority, not by FÜD – which one depends on the document:
We tell you in advance which body is responsible for your document and translate the apostille note along with it. Source: lds.sachsen.de, as at 08/2026.
Certification, apostille & competent authorities
Leipzig lies in Saxony (the independent city of Leipzig). Which authority is responsible for certification and apostille depends on the type of document. FÜD provides the recognisable translation by sworn translators – the apostille is always issued by the competent authority, not by FÜD.
| Matter | Competent authority for Leipzig | What FÜD handles / what to watch for |
|---|---|---|
| Certified translation | Fachübersetzungsdienst Leipzig Sworn translator (accepted nationwide) | We produce the certified translation with a certification note – accepted throughout Germany. |
| Apostille for civil-status & administrative documents | Saxony State Directorate (Landesdirektion Sachsen) (for documents issued in Saxony) Altchemnitzer Straße 41, 09120 Chemnitz | We tell you whether an apostille is needed and translate the apostille note. FÜD does not issue apostilles. |
| Apostille for court & notarial documents | President of the Regional Court (Landgericht) of Leipzig Harkortstraße 9, 04107 Leipzig | Applies e.g. to commercial-register extracts, notarial deeds and court decisions. Translation incl. note. |
| Civil-status documents (birth, marriage, death) | Registry office (Standesamt) Leipzig | We translate the certificate with certification; the international (multilingual) certificate is available directly from the registry office. |
| Recognition of foreign school certificates | State Office for Schools and Education (LaSuB), Saxony | Certified translation for the recognition procedure; equivalence is decided by that body. |
| Recognition of foreign professional qualifications | Competent chamber (IHK zu Leipzig) or recognition body | We provide the formally correct translation of diploma, transcript and professional certificate. |
| Police clearance certificate for use abroad | Federal Office of Justice (BfJ), Bonn Adenauerallee 99–103, 53113 Bonn | Certified translation of the police clearance certificate incl. any apostille note. |
| Residence, naturalisation, immigration office | Citizens' office / immigration office of the City of Leipzig | Certified translation of the required documents – agree language direction and purpose in advance. |
If the receiving body requires an apostille, it belongs before the translation: it is affixed to the original document first, and we then translate the document including the apostille note.
Not sure whether and where you need an apostille? We review your case and name the competent authority; the certified translation is handled by our sworn translators – the issuing itself stays with the authority, not with FÜD.
We handle urgent jobs on an express basis – after a brief feasibility check we confirm a binding deadline and fixed price. For the most requested combinations we agree the delivery date with you beforehand so the right specialist is free:
On the ground
As an automotive and logistics hub with Porsche, BMW and a DHL air-freight cross, Leipzig has a high need for technical and certified translations – from operating manuals and freight papers to contracts and certificates. As an IT and trading location with the EEX energy exchange, business-related and regulatory texts are added.
As a city of science and trade fairs with Leipzig University and international communities, wide-ranging academic and official demand is added: studies, journal articles, certificates and records. For every task we deploy a specialist in the relevant field – not the nearest generalist.
On the ground in Leipzig
Over 98% of translation jobs for Leipzig run entirely online: upload your document or send it by post, and we deliver the finished version – sealed, in the case of certified translations – nationwide by post. In-person submission is possible by appointment.
Certified translations are produced by sworn translators; they are accepted throughout Germany with the translator's certification note – regardless of which court granted the authorisation. For use abroad, we also translate the apostille note.
